On Sunday 11 January 2026, our Sisterhood organised a New Years lunch for the parish. Lots of delicious food and fellowship was shared, along with traditional carol singing to complete the Nativity cycle of services. Thank you to Natalka Oleksyn our MC, Evhen Oleksyn for traditional greetings, and all those who contributed to the event.

Навіть перебуваючи далеко від рідної України, тут, в Західній Австралії, де Різдво зустрічаємо не зі снігом, а з температурою повітря понад 40°, ми все ж бережемо та передаємо далі наші традиції, нашу духовну спадщину і нашу віру. Це наш спільний обов’язок і велика благодать — підтримувати одне одного, підтримувати наш багатостраждальний український народ, молитися за справедливий і тривалий мир на Богом благословенній українській землі, за перемогу добра, правди та світла.
У цей радісний різдвяний час щиро дякую всім дітям та їхнім батькам за чудовий, натхненний і теплий (у всіх значеннях цього слова) Вертеп. Ваша участь — це не просто виступ, а жива проповідь віри, традиції та любові до України.

Dear brothers and sisters, our beloved parish family,
Even though we are far from our homeland Ukraine, here in Western Australia—where sometimes we celebrate Christmas not with snow but with temperatures rising above 40°—we still lovingly preserve and pass on our traditions, our spiritual heritage, and our faith. It is our shared calling and great blessing to support one another, to stand with our suffering Ukrainian people, and to pray for a just and lasting peace on our God-blessed Ukrainian land, for the triumph of goodness, truth, and light.
In this joyful Christmas season I sincerely thank all the children and their parents for the wonderful, heartfelt and truly warm Nativity Vertep. Your participation is not just a performance—it is a living proclamation of faith, tradition, and love for Ukraine.
My deep gratitude to everyone who helped clean and prepare the church, decorate it, and create a spirit of celebration and warmth. Thank you to all who worked in the kitchen and served with love.
A very special and heartfelt thank you to our dobrodiyka Oksana Olevych for organising the children’s Nativity Vertep and helping prepare our Holy Supper. May the Lord reward your love, dedication, and generosity.
We also sincerely thank the Plast organisation and the children who brought the Bethlehem Peace Light to our Church before the Holy Supper. It is a beautiful sign of spiritual unity and the light that no darkness can overcome.
May the newborn Christ bless each of you with strong faith, good health, joy, unity in your families, and peace in your hearts. Let us continue to pray for our soldiers, for Ukraine, and for all who need God’s help.
May the Christmas Star bring us hope, and may the love of Christ always unite our community!

Nativity of Our Lord 2025
Intercession of the Holy Virgin Parish Strathfield West. Sydney.
The Nativity of our Lord has been celebrated at the parish. Our takeaway as Orthodox Christians is that we are to remember the great act of humility that God bestowed on us by becoming one of us.
Our duty is to be lights in the valleys of darkness that appear in the world. Jesus tells us, "You are the light of the world... let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven," Matthew 5:14-16.
We have a lot of work to do.
PLAST NSW blessed us all on the Nativity with the Bethlehem Light of Peace.

Nativity of our Lord Greeting of the Council of Bishops of the UOC of the USA and Diaspora
Saint Nicholas Feast day at the Ukrainian Orthodox Centre in Canberra.
On Sunday 14 December, we celebrated our Parish Feast Day of St. Nicholas.
Following the Divine Liturgy, we enjoyed a lovely concert with our Motanka Theatre, Ukrainian School of Lesya Ukrainka, Ukrainian Dance Group and our Parish Priest, Fr. Michael.
St. Nicholas was very impressed with the performances, and gave out many gifts to some very happy children and adults!

Holodomor Commemorations 2025
Throughout our parish communities, the Forced Famine as every year was solemnly commemorated in prayer and in the serving of memorial services. Our communities prayed for the repose of the souls of the 7 to 10 million innocent Ukrainians whose lives were cruelly ended by the Genocide concocted by the Stalinist authorities.

Our beautiful church service today was officiated by Otets Bohdan and assisted by Otets Yurij, followed by a moleben and venerating our Mother of God ikona. The choir sang absolutely beautifully.
The Feast of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin, Pokrova, commemorates the miracle as a joyous revelation of the Theotokos' protection, which is spread over the world, and the Mother of God’s great love for mankind.
Fantastic celebrations followed in our Parish Hall. A buffet lunch was enjoyed by all, as was the entertainment program.
A big event like this requires many people to make it successful. Thank you to our clergy, altar servers, choir. Thank you to our florist for the beautiful flowers in church. Thank you to all our entertainers, our caterers, the kitchen team. Thank you to our lovely Master of Ceremonies. Special thanks to our amazing Sisterhood and other parishioners who helped with everything from setting up the tables, making the unique table decorations, doing the tickets and table seating, organising and buying the ingredients and making the entree, making and bringing cakes, fruit platters and organising and selling tickets for the fabulous lottery.
Thank you to our Parafiyalna Rada and Sisterhood for the weeks of planning and hardwork, to all our special guests and visitors and to all our wonderful parishioners for all their continued hard work and support.
It was a wonderful day. Thank you everyone!

Volodymyr Bushtedt - 103 years.
With faith in the Resurrection, we mourn the repose in the Lord of Volodymyr Bushtedt, with his family by his side in Melbourne. 
Volodymyr was a committed worker in our Church in Australia and secretary of the Consistory.
His work was far and wide, and he was responsible for bringing out priests to our diocese and working very closely with the bishops and clergy of our church. We remembers him with love for his work for Christ’s Church. 
Prayers for the repose of his soul will be offered at our parish on Sunday.
Our loving Lord blessed him with a long life.
Our prayers and condolences to daughters; Irene and Daria.
Beloved grandfather of Rostyk and Maxim and their partners Stella and Priyanka.
Adored Great Grandfather of Sofia, Mykola, Anna, Suriya and Kavi. with their families.
The funeral for the servant of God Volodymyr, will be served at the Intercession of the Holy Virgin Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 91 Buckley Street Essendon on Friday 17th October at 12.00pm.
At the conclusion of the service the funeral will depart for burial at Fawkner Memorial Park.
Refreshments will be offered at Northern Memorial Park Commemoration Centre, 56 Box Forest Road Glenroy.

Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate with us, especially Fr Yurij from Brisbane, Fr Yevhen and Panimatka Iryna from Adelaide, and all our parishioners and guests.
A huge thank you to Mriya (Dream) branch of the Ukrainian Women’s Association in NSW for catering, and to all the people who donated salads, cakes and drinks.
Thank you to those who helped set up the hall, and to those who brought flowers for the temple and the hall.
Thank you to Dnister Ukrainian credit cooperative for your very generous donation to our church.
Thank you to Nazar Drobushar and Fr Yevhen for entertaining us so beautifully.
Thank you to Ed Oleksyn for baking two sourdough loaves for our raffle and to Anna Bilanenko for her donation to the raffle. Thank you to those who bought raffle tickets.
All proceeds from the lunch and from our raffle have been given to Mriya to donate to Ukraine.

Archbishop Ioan Danyluk
Sincere gratitude to Volodymyr Woytowych and the Parish Council for seeing through the project of the renovation and repairs made on the final resting place of our first Archbishop, His Eminence Archbishop Ioann (Danyluk) of our Australian Diocese.
In addition, the wooden slab on the main monument for all fallen Ukrainians was also replaced with a black granite slab.

Хрещення — це перші двері до Царства Божого.
Протягом трьох років мого пастирського служіння у місті Перт, Західна Австралія, Господь дарував нашій громаді велику радість — ми звершили 12 хрещень. Я хочу щиро подякувати всім батькам, які привели своїх дітей до цієї першої великої Таїни. Ваш вибір — це свідчення віри, любові та відповідальності перед Богом.
Особливо зворушливо, що навіть у далекій Австралії українці не забувають свою рідну Українську Православну Церкву. Це єдність поколінь, пам'ять про батьківську віру та продовження традицій нашого народу.
Мабуть символічно, що останнє хрещення відбулося саме у День Незалежності України, коли ми охрестили двох дівчаток — Ольгу та Ірину. Їхні батьки подолали понад 1500 кілометрів із півночі Західної Австралії, аби принести своїх дітей до купелі хрещення тут, у нашій парафії. Це справжній подвиг віри та любові до Бога.
Нехай Господь благословить усіх батьків, дітей та нашу українську громаду у далекій Австралії. Молімося разом, щоб хрещальні обітниці завжди залишалися живими у наших серцях.
Baptism is the first doorway into the Kingdom of God.
Over the past three years of my pastoral ministry in Perth, Western Australia, the Lord has granted our community a great joy — we have celebrated 12 baptisms. I wish to sincerely thank all the parents who brought their children to this first great Sacrament. Your decision is a true testimony of faith, love, and responsibility before God.
It is especially moving that even in distant Australia, Ukrainians do not forget their native Ukrainian Orthodox Church. This is the unity of generations, the memory of the faith of our ancestors, and the continuation of the traditions of our people.
It seems truly symbolic that the last baptism took place exactly on Ukraine’s Independence Day, when we baptized two little girls — Olga and Irina. Their parents travelled more than 1500 kilometers from the north of Western Australia to bring their children to the baptismal font here in our parish. This is a true act of faith and love for God.
May the Lord bless all parents, children, and our Ukrainian community in distant Australia. Let us pray together that the vows of baptism may always remain alive in our hearts.

NSW CHRISTIAN ALLIANCE
On Friday August 8, we saw the launch of the Christian Alliance Council of NSW that brought together more than 80 religious, community, political, civic and school leaders in Parliament House supporting the theme;
“Bringing Christians Together.”
With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Antony, I represented our Ukrainian Orthodox Church in NSW.
Key note address by Premier Chris Minns, and addresses from Opposition Leader Mark Speakman. Former Prime Minister, Tony Abbott and others, underpinned the importance of having a united voice on matters that unite us, the Christian groups gathered to celebrate Christianity, promising to take their support for unity back into their communities.
Please pray for this Alliance, that from this seed planted in faith today, it becomes a light that can shine for our State of New South Wales.
The last item on the program was very interesting.
It was when all participants were asked to hold a little wooden cross, gifted to each person, and to offer a minute of silent prayer for the needs of their community.
We were asked to then walk around the room and pass this cross on to someone we did not know, and exchange our cross for their cross, from another faith group, so that our prayer will be their prayer.
My prayer petition was for PEACE in Ukraine, removal of all Russian forces, reparations, and a return of all of our land & people & children who are being held captive.
The newly formed Alliance will meet twice yearly; once formally, and a second time informally, where they will invite the greater community to take part in events of a religious, and cultural nature.

Храм — це місце, де небесне торкається землі, де серце знаходить мир, а душа — справжню свободу. Тут ми стаємо ближчими до Бога, чуємо Його голос і відчуваємо Його присутність.
Діти, яких змалку привчають бути у храмі, вчаться бачити світ крізь призму Божої любові. Вони пізнають, що є святе і вічне, навчаються взаємоповазі та молитві. Це духовний фундамент, який залишиться з ними на все життя.
Після свята Преображення ми особливо пам’ятаємо: справжня переміна починається всередині нас. І коли ми разом з дітьми крокуємо до храму, ми ведемо їх дорогою світла — туди, де Христос преображає людське серце і наповнює його світлом, яке не гасне.
Тож приводьте своїх дітей до Божого дому, особливо до святого Причастя, щоб вони зростали у вірі та мали в серці Того, Хто є Життя вічне.
The church is the place where heaven touches the earth, where the heart finds peace, and the soul finds true freedom. Here we draw closer to God, hear His voice, and feel His presence.
Children who are brought to church from an early age learn to see the world through the lens of God’s love. They come to know what is holy and eternal, and they are taught respect and prayer. This is the spiritual foundation that will remain with them for life.
After the Feast of the Transfiguration, we are reminded that true change begins within us. And when we walk to church with our children, we lead them along the path of light—where Christ transforms the human heart and fills it with a light that never fades.
So, bring your children to God’s house, especially to partake of Holy Communion, so that they may grow in faith and have in their hearts the One who is Eternal Life.

MH-17 Memorial Service.

Thursday 17 July marks 11 years since the downing of Flight MH17, which claimed the lives of 298 people, including 38 Australian citizens and residents.
A joint memorial prayer service, was led on Thursday 17 July by Fr Stefan Sapun from the Ukrainian Catholic Parish of Our Lady of Protection in Brisbane and Fr Yuriy Fediw from the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church Brisbane:

MH - 17 Memorial Service. Ukrainian Orthodox Centre Canberra
A commemorative service was held today, 17 July 2025, at the Ukrainian Orthodox Centre in Turner, ACT, to mark the 11th anniversary of the downing of Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17. The ceremony honoured the memory of the 298 passengers and crew who lost their lives in the tragedy on 17 July 2014.
The service began with a formal welcome and opening remarks, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony as a tribute to those who perished. Attendees then observed a minute’s silence in collective remembrance. A traditional Panakhyda memorial service was conducted, reflecting the cultural and spiritual ties that remain central to this gathering.
Words of remembrance were shared by representatives of the Ukrainian-Australian community and embassy officials.
Following the service, a lunch was hosted by the church community for guests in the church hall of the Ukrainian Orthodox Centre, offering a warm space for reflection and conversation.
The photos below capture moments from the commemoration. The Ukrainian community in Canberra remains steadfast in its commitment to preserving the memory of the victims and advocating for justice.

Сьогодні, 17 липня 2025 року, в Українському православному центрі в Канберрі відбулася поминальна служба з нагоди 11 річниці трагічної загибелі пасажирів і екіпажу рейсу MH17 авіакомпанії Malaysian Airlines.
Служба розпочалася з офіційного привітання та вступного слова, після чого відбулася церемонія покладання вінків на знак пошани до загиблих. Присутні вшанували пам’ять жертв хвилиною мовчання. Далі було відправлено панахиду — традиційну поминальну службу, яка відображає культурні та духовні зв’язки, що залишаються важливою складовою цієї події.
Слово пам’яті виголосили представники українсько-австралійської громади та представники посольств.
Після завершення служби громада церкви організувала обід для гостей у залі при Українському православному центрі, створивши теплу атмосферу для спілкування та роздумів.
Фотографії нижче зафіксували окремі моменти цієї пам’ятної події. Українська громада Канберри й надалі залишається відданою справі збереження пам’яті про жертв трагедії та прагненню до справедливості.

З благословенням отця Михайла, парафія Покрови Пресвятої Богородиці Української Православної Церкви в Стратфілд-Вест розпочинає щомісячну парафіяльну ігрову групу для дітей віком від 0 до 5 років, охрещених у Православній вірі. Наша перша зустріч запланована на неділю, 6 липня. Ми хотіли б запросити вас та ваших малюків відвідати її.
Ми сподіваємося, що така ігрова група заохотить вас привести своїх діточок до церкви на Святе Причастя, а також дозволить вам познайомитися з іншими молодими сім'ями.
Для немовлят/дітей будуть надані іграшки. Якщо у вас є іграшки в хорошому стані, які ви хотіли б пожертвувати, будь ласка, візьміть їх із собою.

Parish Playgroup
Dear Parents,
With Fr Michael’s blessing, the Parish of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Strathfield West is starting a monthly Parish Playgroup for children aged 0-5, who have been baptised in the Orthodox Faith. Our first gathering is planned for Sunday 6th July. We would like to invite you and your little ones to attend.
We hope that such a playgroup will encourage you to bring your children to church for Holy Communion, and will allow you to get to know other young families.
There will be toys provided for the babies/children to play with. If you have any toys in good condition that you would like to donate, please bring them along.
Coffee and biscuits will be provided for parents. There is no cost involved.

Ці дні були непростими. Але у всьому, навіть у випробуваннях, Господь дає нам силу і ставить поруч тих, хто підтримує, хто молиться, хто вірить разом із нами.

Сьогодні ми святкуємо найвеличніше торжество Православної Церкви — Воскресіння Господа нашого Ісуса Христа. Це свято — не лише перемога життя над смертю, але й глибока надія для всього людства.
Для нас, православних українців, які живуть в далекій Австралії, ця звістка набуває ще більшого значення. Бо коли ми промовляємо "Христос Воскрес", ми свідчимо про силу віри, яка здатна підняти з руїн, яка дає силу йти далі — навіть коли, здається, світ потемнів.
Україна проходить свою Голгофу — у вогні війни, болю, втрат і випробувань. Але, як і Христос, наша Батьківщина не залишиться в гробі. Бо в кожному воїнові, в кожному волонтері, в кожному нашому молитовному стоянні — живе надія на воскресіння України.
Місія українців у світі — нести цю правду. Правду про страждання, правду про мужність, і головне — про віру. Віру в те, що темрява ніколи не переможе світло.
Нехай світло Воскресіння освітлює наші домівки, зміцнює наш дух і єднає наш народ — і в Україні, і тут, в далекій, але дружній Австралії.

In the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Плащаниця (Plashchanytsia) refers to the Shroud or Epitaphios, a liturgical cloth or icon depicting the body of Jesus Christ after his crucifixion, lying in the tomb. It is used during Good Friday (Велика П'ятниця) and Holy Saturday services to symbolize Christ's death and burial.
The Plashchanytsia is typically a richly decorated cloth or embroidered icon showing Christ’s body, often surrounded by angels or other figures. During the Good Friday Vespers, it is carried in a solemn procession and placed in a symbolic tomb in the center of the church. On Holy Saturday, it remains there for veneration by the faithful, who approach to kiss or pray before it, commemorating Christ’s time in the tomb before his resurrection.
The term "Плащаниця" comes from the Slavic word for a shroud or winding sheet, reflecting its role in representing the burial cloth of Jesus

A huge thank you to Ihor Soc who donated the beautiful new arch representing Christ's tomb. Ihor bought, assembled, decorated and kindly donated the arch in memory of his Mum, Maria Soc and his sister Katia Soc. For many years, Maria and Katia spent countless hours in decorating our church with the embroidered cloths and their beautiful flower arrangements.

Beautiful service, blessing of the verba, delicious lunch of varenyky and borshch, a big thank you to all the ladies, our sisters who helped in the kitchen and the Bazaar, wonderful lottery...an absolutely beautiful day. A big thank you to Nadia S for providing the verba as she does every year and also sincere thanks to Ihor for getting the verba and making the effort of cutting and preparing the verba for all of us. Special thanks to Valya for cooking up over 700 varenyky, to Nataliya, Solomiya and Katya for working in the kitchen and to Pilip for making the borshch. And all.the ladies who worked on the Bazaar! Sincere thanks to everyone involved! All the preparation, setting up, baking, cooking, and for for everyone who previoisly helped make the varenyky. Панахида за загиблими під час російської окупації Бучі.
В австралійському Сіднеї вшанували невинно вбитих жертв окупації Бучанської громади.
У головному українському храмі Сіднея – храмі Святої Покрови – відбулася панахида за загиблими під час російської окупації Бучі. Богослужіння приурочили до третьої річниці звільнення громади від російських військ.
Ініціаторкою вшанування пам’яті стала бучанка Марія Микитюк, яка після окупації переїхала до Австралії. Внаслідок російського вторгнення жінка втратила близьких друзів – Володимира Ковальського, Жанну Камєнєву та Тетяну Січкар.
«Рана досі болить. Важливо, щоб люди у світі не забували про ці злочини, саме тому ми провели панахиду», – розповіла Марія Микитюк.
До вшанування долучилася українська православна громада Сіднея на чолі з отцем Михайлом, який провів богослужіння. Ця подія стала важливим нагадуванням про події у Бучі та символом єдності українців у боротьбі за справедливість.

for the Beginning of the Great and Holy Lent
Ukrainian Orthodox Centre Canberra -Third Anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Today, February 23, 2025, the Ukrainian Orthodox Centre in Canberra hosted a solemn memorial service to mark the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. This day stands as a reminder of the resilience of the Ukrainian people and the ongoing struggle for freedom and peace.
A significant part of the event was the unveiling of a memorial pillar-stone and commemorative plaques, honoring the victims of Russia’s aggression and bearing witness to the atrocities committed. Each plaque serves as a powerful reminder of the suffering endured.
The memorial was unveiled by the author and organizer of the project, Peter Rimas Kabaila, together with Ukraine’s Ambassador to Australia, Vasyl Myroshnychenko. Their dedication to preserving the memory of these tragic events was deeply moving.
Mr. Darius Degutis, Ambassador of Lithuania to Australia, and Peter Cain, Member of the Legislative Assembly of the Australian Capital Territory, also addressed the gathering with heartfelt words of support, emphasising the importance of international solidarity in standing against oppression and injustice.
Following the ceremony, attendees visited the church hall's inspiring exhibition of Ukrainian artists. The day concluded with a warm tea gathering, where participants reflected on the significance of the event and shared messages of hope and support.

Сьогодні, 23 лютого 2025 року, в Українському православному центрі в Канберрі відбулася спільна панахида, присвячена третій річниці повномасштабного вторгнення Росії в Україну. Цей день є нагадуванням про стійкість українського народу та його безперервну боротьбу за свободу і мир.
Важливою частиною заходу стало відкриття меморіального пам’ятного каменю та меморіальних дощок, присвячених жертвам російської агресії та як свідчення вчинених злочинів. Кожна дошка є потужним нагадуванням про пережиті страждання.
Меморіал відкрили автор і організатор проєкту Петро Римас Кабайла разом із Послом України в Австралії Василем Мирошниченком. Їхня відданість збереженню пам’яті про ці трагічні події була зворушливою.
На заході також виступили з теплими словами підтримки Дарюс Дегутіс, Посол Литви в Австралії, та Пітер Кейн, член Законодавчої асамблеї Австралійської столичної території, підкресливши важливість міжнародної солідарності у протистоянні гнобленню та несправедливості.
Після церемонії учасники відвідали натхненну виставку українських художників у церковній залі. День завершився теплим чаюванням, під час якого присутні ділилися своїми думками про значення цієї події та словами підтримки й надії.

The Meeting of our Lord, God, and Saviour Jesus Christ (40 days after Christmas Day), commemorates the presentation of Jesus to God in the Jerusalem Temple.
Blessing of Candles - Light of Hope, traditionally in our parish, candles are blessed at the end of the Liturgy and then taken home and kept to be lit in particularly difficult times and during troublesome storms.

ДО УВАГИ БАТЬКІВ!
2 лютого розпочинаємо новий навчальний рік у парафіяльній недільній школі та запрошуємо нових учнів віком від 5 до 16 років.
Мета діяльності– привести дітей, а також їхніх батьків, до Христа, спрямувати їх на дорогу спасіння. Виховання в нашій школі допоможе дітям сформувати правильний світогляд та убезпечити їх від духовних загроз сучасності. Головним результатом роботи школи є те, що діти знайомляться з основами православної віри, стають активними учасниками життя церковної громади.
У процесі навчання діти прикрашають виступами свята, організовують вертепи, здійснюють посильну допомогу при богослужіннях.
Які предмети вивчаються у нашій недільній школі?
Основним предметом є Закон Божий. Його вивчення включає ознайомлення учнів з біблійною історією, переданням Православ’я, історією Церкви, життями святих, будовою та устроєм храму, змістом церковних богослужінь.
Навчання проводиться у трьох вікових групах.
В парафіяльній школі діє творчий гурток, також ми маємо бібліотеку дитячої духовної літератури.
Навчання проводиться в неділю, початок уроків о 12. 15. Навчання безкоштовне.

We invite Canberrans and visitors to join us for an evening dedicated to Vasyl Stus, the Ukrainian poet, publicist, translator, and human rights activist! This event is part of the annual @stus_fest , celebrated in over 20 countries each January.
Who was Stus, and why was he banned? What makes his legacy so significant today? Discover the answers to these questions and more at our event, which will explore his poetry and life.
We will feature a screening of the play “Forbidden”. This is a joint project of the Kherson Regional Academic Music and Drama Theatre named after M. Kulish and the Kirovohrad Academic Regional Ukrainian Music and Drama Theatre named after M. L. Kropyvnytsky.
“Stus fought and dreamed of a free and independent Ukraine, facing constant persecution from Soviet authorities. Today, as Russia once again encroaches on our lands, the struggle continues. Every region feels the impact, enduring daily shelling or ongoing occupation. Сьогодні 12 січня, парафіяни Української Православної Церкви Покрови Пресвятої Богородиці в Strathfield West, Сідней святкували Різдво, Новий Рік та Богоявлення на нашому парафіяльному обіді. Від імені голови сестрицтва Павли Зелінської, я хочу подякувати тим, хто сьогодні долучився до святкування цих трьох свят.
Це дійсно було потрійне свято з такою кількістю людей та чудової їжі на вибір. Я не думаю, що хтось пішов додому голодним!
Величезна подяка всім, хто приготовив страви, тим, хто прийшов в ранці перед Божественною Літургією щоб приготувати зал, тим, хто допомагав мити посуд, і тим, хто залишився прибирати зал наприкінці! Ох, і спільний спів різдвяних колядок був справді прекрасним!

We gather together in a spiritual atmosphere, Each liturgy, we meet new people. With the joy of being able to sing Ukrainian Carols, that raise our hearts and thoughts to our Ukrainian people.

Christmas comes to us once again during a time of trials. Yet even amidst pain and loss, we feel the light of God’s love. Christ is born to bring peace and hope—gifts our Ukraine so desperately needs.
Let us pray for our defenders, who, at the cost of their own lives, give us the chance to celebrate, and for those who now rest in eternal peace. During these days, let us support one another not only with words but also with deeds, remembering that even in the darkest times, the Light is born.
May the newborn Savior grant Ukraine victory, peace, and renewal!

CHRIST IS BORN! GLORIFY HIM!
As we gather in the radiant light of the Nativity of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, our hearts are warmed with the joy of this sacred season. We rejoice in the birth of Emmanuel—God with us—who entered our world to bring salvation, hope, and peace to all. This holy celebration coincides with the conclusion of the year 2024 and the dawn of 2025, a new year of God’s grace. Together, let us reflect upon the blessings of the past year and prepare to welcome the coming year with faith, love, and a renewed commitment to walk in the light of Christ. The Lord’s Nativity reminds us that His grace is ever-present, calling us to enter into the new year striving for peace and reaching out with love to the darkest corners of our world – most especially to Ukraine. In a society often marked by division and a culture of isolation, Christ came to unite us, to transform us back to our original dignity as children of God. His Incarnation is a call to rebuild relationships, foster community, and reflect the love of our Creator in our daily lives.
The Nativity season is also a time to celebrate the timeless traditions that define our Ukrainian Orthodox faith and culture. The Holy Supper (Sviata Vecheria) brings families together in sacred gatherings that span generations—grandparents, parents, and children united in prayer and thanksgiving. These cherished customs, passed down through the centuries, proclaim the joyful message of Christ’s Nativity and remind us of our shared identity as His people. The singing of traditional carols (kolyadky), with their proclamations of the Savior’s coming, strengthens our bonds of faith and brings the Light of the Nativity into our homes and communities.
We encourage you, dear faithful, to preserve these sacred traditions and pass them on to future generations. Sing the carols, prepare the Holy Supper, and greet one another with the timeless proclamation: “Christ is Born! Glorify Him!” These acts of faith and love testify to the enduring presence of Christ in our lives. As we reflect on the journey of Christ’s life - from the manger to the cross - we are called to enter into His joy and to walk with Him along the path of salvation. The history of salvation, which began in the humble manger, leads us through the ultimate sacrifice on the Cross to the eternal glory of His Resurrection. Let this sacred journey inspire us to live as His faithful disciples, embracing His call to holiness and service.
Amid the coldness of the world, marked by war and suffering, the faithful in Ukraine offer us a profound example of perseverance and faith. In the face of war, lack of electricity, lack of heat and disrupted lives, they gather in basements and shelters, singing carols and celebrating the Nativity with hearts warmed by the Light of Christ. We join them in spirit, praying for peace in Ukraine and for all those enduring hardship in other war-torn areas of the world.
The Prince of Peace entered the world to call us to be instruments of His peace. Let us dedicate ourselves to this divine mission, praying and working for reconciliation and healing in our communities and throughout the world. As we celebrate the Nativity, we also reaffirm our commitment to the sanctity of human life, from conception to natural death, and to the dignity of every person as a child of God.
Beloved in Christ, may the joy and warmth of this holy season fill your hearts and homes. Let us proclaim together: “God is with us! Who can be against us?” By sharing the Light of Christ - the Newborn King - we can bring hope and love to a world in need.

Збираючись у сяючому світлі Різдва Господа нашого і Спасителя Ісуса Христа, наші серця зігріваються радістю цієї священної пори. Ми радіємо народженню Еммануїла — Бога з нами — який прийшов у світ, щоб принестивсім спасіння, надію та мир. Це святе святкування збігається з закінченням 2024 року та початком 2025 року — нового року Божої благодаті. Разом, давайте задумаймось над благословеннями минулого року та підготуймо себезустріти наступаючий рік з вірою, любов’ю та оновленою присвятою перебування у світлі Христовому. Різдво Христове також є часом для святкування стародавніх традицій, які визначають нашу Українську Православну віру та культуру. Свята Вечеря збирає сім’ї разом у священну трапезу, яка охоплює покоління — дідусів, бабусь, батьків і дітей, об’єднаних у молитві та подяці. Ці шановані звичаї, що передаються століттями, проголошують радісну звістку Різдва Христового і нагадують нам про нашу спільну ідентичність як Його народу. Спів традиційних колядок з проголошенням приходу Спасителя зміцнює нашу віру та приносить Світло Різдва в наші домівки та громади.
Ми заохочуємо Вас, дорогі віряни, бережіть ці святі традиції та передавайте їх майбутнім поколінням. Колядуйте, готуйте Святу Вечерю та вітайте один одного гучним сповіщенням: “Христос Народжується! Славімо Його!” Ціділа віри та любові свідчать про постійну присутність Христа в нашому житті. Розмірковуючи над життям Христа — від ясел до хреста — ми покликані увійти в Його радість і йти з Ним по дорозі спасіння. Історія спасіння, яка почалася в смиренних яслах, веде нас через самопожертву на Хресті до вічної слави Його Воскресіння. Нехай ця священна мандрівка надихне нас жити, як Його вірні учні, приймаючи Його заклик до святості та служіння.
Посеред холоду світу, позначеного війною та стражданнями, вірні в Україні показують нам глибокий приклад витривалості та віри. Всупереч війні, без електрики, тепла та нормального життя, вони збираються в підвалах і бомбосховищах, співають колядки та святкують Різдво із серцями зігрітими Світлом Христа. Ми приєднюємосядо них у дусі, молячись за мир в Україні та за всіх, хто страждає в інших охоплених війною частинах світу.
Князь миру прийшов у світ, щоб покликати нас бути знаряддям Його миру. Давайте ж присвятимо себе цій божественній місії, молячись і працюючи задля примирення та зцілення в наших громадах і в усьому світі. Святкуючи Різдво Христове, ми також наголошуємо в наших громадах про святість людського життя, від зачаття до природної смерті, і про гідность кожної людини як дитини Божої.
Улюблені у Христі, нехай радість і тепло цієї святої пори наповнять Ваші серця та домівки. Викликуймо разом: “З нами Бог! Хто може бути проти нас?” Ділячись Світлом Христа — Hовонародженого Царя — ми можемо принести надію та любов потребуючому світу.

Свято духовної весни у Українська православна парафія у Брізбені відбулося 15 вересня: цього дня вірні мали змогу приклонитися до часточок мощей св. вмч. і ціл. Пантелеймона, св. вмч. Меркурія і св. вмч. Кипріяна, які від цього дня будуть зберігатися на Анелі, в українській православній церкві св. Миколая.
Св. Літургію очолив о. канцлер Михайло Соломко з Кенбери у співслужінні o. Василь Олевич з Перту.
Після закінчення св. Літургії духовенство з вірними пройшли хресним ходом навколо храму.

Велика подяка всім людям, які пожертвували речі для продажу, і чудовим волонтерам, які вчора все підготували, сьогодні допомогли, а після Ярмароку все спакували та прибирали!!!! Ви супер!!!

Hierarchs Conclude Archpastoral Visit to the Ukrainian Orthodox Eparchy of Australia and New Zealand

On Sunday the 9th of July, the Ukrainian Orthodox parish community of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin, Strathfield Sydney, Australia, welcomed our dear Hierarchs: Metropolitan Antony and Archbishop Daniel to celebrate the Divine Liturgy for the 5th Sunday following Pentecost.
With a blue sky and sun shining, the Church met their Eminences at the door of the Church Pavla Zelinska , head off the parish Sisterhood and Bohdan Wolodymyriw, President of the Church council along with Nazar and Volodymyr who gave greetings on behalf of the altar services.
With Covid and all the other obstacles that have challenged our communities and wider society in general it was with spirit of joy that we came together to worship the Triune God with our hierarchs who lifted the hearts and spirits of the faithful of Sydney.
During the Divine Liturgy which was prayerfully sung by the Church choir under the direction of Harrison Taranec, we were spiritually edified by the sermon given by Archbishop Daniel which highlighted how we should always fight the temptations of the world by growing into the image God through connecting with one another in the spirit of love. His Eminence highlighted that it is the work we do outside the Church doors which determines how we grow in Christ.
As we mark the 500th day of the illegal invasion of Ukraine, our prayers for our long suffering homeland were strengthened by our shepherds with their Australian flock.
With the blessing of Metropolitan Antony citations (Hramoty) were bestowed on some of our hard working parishioners of our Holy Intercession parish in Strathfield, along with parishioners of St Athanasius UOC Granville and St Nicholas Turner, ACT.
Following the Liturgy, the sisterhood offered a beautiful lunch, where all present relaxed and listened with great interest to Archbishop Daniel who filled the faithful in on Church life and the relief effort for our brothers and sisters in Ukraine.
With hearts filled with joy the day ended as it started, in prayer, wishing our hierarchs Many Blessed Years and good health for their important ministry, shepherding the Holy Church.

В неділю, 2 липня 2023 для Української Православної парафії Покрова Пресвятої Богородиці м. Ессендон відбулась чудова подія, яка піднесла усіх присутніх на небувалу духовну висоту. Приїзд митрополита Антонія - предстоятеля Української Православної Церкви США та Діаспори, Правлячого Архієрея Австралійської і Ново-Зеландської Єпархії та архієпископа Даниїла, можна сказати, окрилив кожного і дав незаперечну віру у живого Бога.
Легка, одночасно дуже сильна, проповідь архієпископа Даниїла, чудові приклади з власного життя, прості відповіді на складні питання, живе спілкування - це те, що владики подарували нам. Усі присутні відчули себе однією Христовою сімʼєю. Кожному з присутніх хотілось поділитись своїм болем, особливо новоприбулим українцям, біженцям, з різних куточків України, з Маріуполя, Бучі, Ірпеня, Донецька, Києва, Луганська, Миколаєва, Херсона,тих міст, де окупанти наробили багато лиха. І ці сьогодні знайшли свій прихисток у Австралії, але кожному з них так бракує не тільки домівки, споруд чи людей, яких вони втратили, але й духовного дому, живого Бога. І ця подія подарувала їм таку можливість. Тверду віру у перемогу правди!
Багато українців Австралії, а особливо нашої парафії стали на захист та підтримку України, новоприбулих українців. Маючи свій гіркий досвід міграції під час другої світової війни, кожен по свому намагається бути корисним. Від самих початків війни в Україні наша парафія почала допомагати новоприбулим. Найперше, ми організували безкоштовні обіди для новоприбулих особлива подяка Надя Лесик (голова сестрицтва парафії), організували допомогу у необхідних речах, одягу від благодійних організацій, це в основному взяв на себе Віктор Заблодський. Цей новий одяг на протязі року був доступний для кожного хто мав потребу і його було надзвичайно потрібно бо кожен новоприбулий не мав із собою рівно майже нічого.
Важливим елементом у організації була координація інформації, цю ланку взяла на себе Галя Бондарук. Поруч з церквою знаходиться Народний дім, там на волонтерських засадах працює наша чудова парафіянка Валентина Василь, яка знаходила час і можливість наводити співпрацю у спільних проектах та заходах, а також готувати їжу, роздавати речі і багато іншого, будучи чутливою до різних потреб новоприбулих. Практично кожної неділі Осія Ануляк проводила майстер-класи з різних практик мистецького гуртка. І це тільки видима частина айсбергу тої допомоги і підтримки. Закінчивши цей фінансовий рік, парафія передала пожертви у розмірі 15 тисяч австралійських доларів на різні потреби постраждалих чи окупованих територій. І приїзд наших владик лише зміг в малій частині підтримати цих добрих душею людей. Звичайно, ця праця була не для нагород, і багато хто не згаданий поіменно, але всі, як одна велика сімʼя, молитвою і працею, зробили багато.
Тому ми щиросердечно дякуємо дорогим гостям, владикам митрополиту Антонію та архієпископу Даниїлу за ту «енергію» ( слова з проповіді на літургії), зарядившись якою, ми з допомогою Божою підемо далі до перемоги правди і добра.
On July 2nd, 2023, a wonderful event took place for the Orthodox parish of the Protection of the Mother of God in Essendon (Melbourne), which lifted all those present to an unprecedented spiritual height. The arrival of Metropolitan Antony – the spiritual father of the Australia and New Zeeland Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Diaspora and Archbishop Daniel, inspired everyone and gave them undeniable faith in the living God. Archbishop Daniel's easy, yet very strong sermon gave wonderful examples from his own life, simple answers to difficult questions, lively communication - this is what the bishops gave us. Everyone present felt like one family of Christ.
Our newly arrived Ukrainians, refugees from different parts of Ukraine, from Mariupol, Bucha, Irpen, Donetsk, Kyiv, Luhansk, Mykolaiv, Kherson, those cities where the occupiers did a lot of damage wanted to share their pain. Today they have found their refuge in Australia, but each of them misses not only their home, buildings or people they lost, but also the spiritual home, the living God. And this event gave them such an opportunity. Firm faith in the victory of truth!
At the Ukrainian House our wonderful parishioner Valentina Vasyl worked on a volunteer basis to cooperate in joint projects and events as well as prepare food, distribute goods and much more. She has shown a great sensitivity and understanding of the various needs of the new arrivals.
Almost every Sunday, Osia Anolak has held craft classes. Through these classes, friendships have been formed and everyone has found them to be very therapeutic.
This is only the tip of the iceberg of the help and support that has been given. At the end of this financial year, the parish had donated $15,000 Australian dollars which has helped provide for the various needs of the affected or occupied territories. Of course, this work was not undertaken for rewards, and many are not mentioned by name, but everyone like on big family, through prayer and work, did a lot.
We sincerely thank our dear spiritual fathers, Metropolitan Antony and Archbishop Daniel for that “energy” (words from the sermon at the liturgy), charged with which, with God’s help, we will go further to the victory of truth and goodness.
